To mark Veganuary, we caught up with Reena Sharma, better known as The Vegan Dietician. Reena is an HCPC-registered professional and full member of the British Dietetic Association. She offers private consultations specialising in plant-based nutrition, paediatrics, IBS and pregnancy. Meet Reena Sharma
Tell us about your journey into dietetics.
I’ve always loved food - it’s such a big part of South Asian culture and family life. But my path wasn’t straightforward. I initially studied pharmacy before finding my true calling in dietetics. Coming from a family with diabetes and heart disease, I wanted to understand food as medicine and help others make sustainable, healthy choices.
If you could only eat one thing forever, what would it be?
Tofu - or beans! They’re nourishing, filling and incredibly versatile.
Your foodie guilty pleasure?
Definitely vegan jelly sweets, or nostalgic cereals like Ready Brek and Cornflakes.
If you could encourage people to add one thing to their diet?
More fruit and veg - in any form. Fresh, frozen, tinned or dried, just get them in wherever you can. The more plants, the better.
Ingredients you’re most excited about in 2024?
I’d love to perfect a vegan egg yolk this year. But honestly, I enjoy experimenting with everything.
What’s always on your shopping list?
Tofu, hummus, soy yoghurt, salad veg, fruit, plant milks, chickpeas, oats, pesto, gherkins, rice noodles, spinach - and always something fun, like a quirky cereal.
What do you love about Willy’s ACV?
I’m a sucker for good packaging - and Willy’s nails it. The flavour, the quality and the fact that it’s truly alive make it a staple in my kitchen.
